WHAT MAKEUP BEST SUITS MY SKIN?

OILY/COMBINATION

Go for a foundation that is oil free. If the packaging says "matte", "stay all day", "long lasting", "powder finish" then it is the one for you.

An oil free primer will help your foundation not only appear more even, but will make sure that it wears evenly and not look patchy by the end of the day.

Generally an oily skin is blemish prone. When choosing a concealer keep in mind where and what you are concealing.

  1. A stick concealer is usually for spots and is not suitable for under eyes (it is too heavy).
  2. Use a liquid concealer from a tube or pen for under eyes. A light reflective under eye concealer can brighten up your eyes and add depth to the matte look foundation.

Powder is a powerful tool for oily skins.

  1. A pressed powder will generally mean more coverage as more powder is applied to the brush at a time.
  2. Loose powder is more controllable with regards to how much you apply at a time. It is easy to tap the excess powder off the brush before applying.
Blusher or bronzer is important for everyone because it adds back that naturally occurring colour that we have just evened out with our foundation. A shimmery blush will add a healthy glow to the cheeks, however if you are apprehensive about a shiny look matte colour is perfect.

DRY

Go for a foundation that is hydrating or iridescent. If the packaging says "glow", "iridescent", "natural finish", "wake me up" then the foundation will help give your dull appearance a pick-me-up.

A good primer will help even out your uneven skin texture. This in turn will mean that your foundation will go on more evenly and is less likely to just absorb into dry skin in patches.

Highlighter pens and concealers are the way to go, because sometimes a stick concealer can appear patchy on a dry skin. These can be used for under eyes as well as blemishes. Light reflecting concealers refract light away from dark circles and red patches or spots, and create an illusion of brighter more even skin.

Matte powder is the enemy because it dulls down all the lovely effects of your light reflective foundation. It is still important to set your foundation with a powder so my advice would be to use a loose powder instead of a compact powder. Tap the brush to shake off any extra before application.

Blusher or bronzer is important for everyone because it adds back that naturally occurring colour that we have just evened out with our foundation. For a dry skin a shimmery blush will add a healthy glow to the cheeks.

TIP: When deciding your foundation colour apply three separate possible matches along your jaw line. The one that blends the best is the winner.
