The Right Powder For You

Powder is used to set foundation and make it last all day. Any liquid or cream products that you use on the skin may become shiny as the  skin produces oil. A dry product, like powder, is needed to soak up excess oil. Some very dry skins will not need powder, and some foundations will be formulated to set on their own, without the help of a powder.

Here's some information on each different type so you can choose the best one for you:

Loose

Looser powder comes in a pot and has to be shaken out to use on the face. Traditionally loose powders were finer in texture. But make up has come a long way and now looser powders and pressed powders will be very similar in texture.

Pressed

Pressed powder looks like a cake of compacted powder. But even though the pressed powder has been compressed into a compact, it will still be light in texture on the skin. Using pressed powder for touch up through out the day is quick and easy.

Setting powder

setting powder is what we think of as classic powder, it goes on after your foundation to get rid of shine and "set" it so that it lasts a long time. It can be tinted to match your skin or translucent.

Finishing powder

The difference between setting powder and finishing powder is a little hazy. Many companies use these terms interchangeably, so it's partially a matter of marketing. Finishing powders is generally used after after setting powder to blur fine lines and pores, giving you an extra-perfect look. It's best for situations where you're going to be photographed a lot, rather than an essential step for everyday makeup.

HD powder

HD powders are usually finishing powders. They are named because makeup artists working on TV and movies that shoot in high definition found that other powders read as to heavy on film.
