Foundation is designed to even out the skin tone. The range of different consistencies, textures, colours and finishes available these days is huge. Foundation is without a doubt the most anxiety-inducing product in our makeup bags. When foundation is done wrong there's no hiding the mistake. Here's some information you might not know about the different foundations out there so you can pick the right one for you.
The consistency of a foundation relates to the substance that it is made from. The most common consistency is liquid.
LIQUID - Liquid foundations feel wet to the touch and dry on the skin.
CREAM - Cream foundation feels wet and creamy to the touch and comes in a pot or compact. This has a heavier consistency than liquid and may therefore be stronger coverage.
MOUSSE - Mousse foundation is wet to the touch but usually dries quite matte.
GEL - Most gels will give a colour to the face without covering blemishes.
The coverage of your foundation refers to how much it covers the skin. Some foundations will show skin, while others will completely block out the skin underneath. The main levels are:
FULL - Blocks out the skin underneath completely, can look heavy if it is not applied correctly. Use foundation brush to buff the product into the skin giving a more natural finish.
MEDIUM - Covers blemishes while still looking natural.
SHEER - See through texture, like a tinted moisturiser, covers the skin only slightly while letting it breathe.
Most foundations will be somewhere in between sheer, medium and full coverage. So when picking your foundation you need to think about what you want from your makeup, do you want full coverage long lasting or do you just want something light to let your skin breathe.
